Hakodate is a fishing harbour 3.5 hours JR ride south of Sapporo. The proximity to the ocean made this town renowned for its seafood, including the long-leg king crab (just like the Alaska king crabs that can be found in Vancouver) and live squid sashimi. The town is also famous for its night scene, which is known as the top three night scenes in the world along with HK. http://www.city.hakodate.hokkaido.jp/kikaku/english/

Top right: Fish tanks filled with live squids bouncing up and down can be found in many of the local restauarants around the fish market area.
Top left: Live squid sashimi - a local delicacy in Hakodate. The tentacles of these squids were still moving when served, and the suction cups on tentacles will suck to your tongue.

Below: The infamous night view at Mt. Hakodate, unfortunately it was a very foggy night and hence not much of a view.
